June 2-4 Myrtle Beach Car Show

Here’s some pics from the MB show.  The local contingency didn’t do too badly – John & Terrie Sutherland won 2nd place in the ’53 – ’62 class, I got 3rd place in the ’68 – ’73 class, and Dennis Ecks (a co-worker of John’s who has been to one or two of our meetings) took 3rd place in the ’91 – ’96 class.  All in all, not a bad day – and made even better by the fact that not one drop of rain fell on us going to Myrtle Beach, or while we were at the show!  Also in attendance were Randy & Janice Hodges in their C5, and Mark Shellberg who arrived Vette-less.  Of course, one of the highlights of this trip is always the welcome party at SBB on Friday night.  This year they added a burnout contest after dinner.  Even though they reversed the direction of traffic for the contest to avoid having to make that right-angle turn right in the middle of your burnout, there was still one casualty – a beautiful new C6 got sideways and crashed into the railing, tearing a big chunk out of his front bumper, and according to rumor, pushed his front fender back into the door far enough that the door wouldn’t open!  Needless to say, his wife was not too happy.  As for the car show, I believe they announced at the awards banquet that there were 165 cars in attendance this year.  Not bad given the rotten weather forecast.  And the quality of the cars was fantastic.  The awards banquet was moved to a country club this year, and they did an excellent job with the dinner.  These folks really put on a fantastic event at Myrtle Beach!
